Monkeypox case in the UK

  • The UK’s Health Protection Agency has confirmed that a person in England has been diagnosed with monkeypox. The patient has recent travel history from Nigeria, where he is believed to have contracted the virus. Monkeypox is a rare viral infection that does not spread easily between individuals.

Reasons Why Flour Prices Are Rising in India

  • The monthly average retail price across India for Wheat Flour (Atta) is Rs. 32.38 per kg in April 2022, the highest since January 2010. The steady rise in flour prices is due to rising wheat prices amid falling production due to the ongoing war in Ukraine.

2022 Pulitzer Prize

  • Reuters photographer Danish Siddiqui was posthumously awarded the 2022 Pulitzer Prize. He was among four Indians, Amit Dave, Sana Irshad Mattoo, and Adnan Abidi, who were honored with the coveted award.

  • Chinese President Xi Jinping reportedly suffers from a ‘brain aneurysm,’ an abnormal dilation of an artery in which a blood vessel can dilate and burst without warning and cause bleeding. Jinping is reportedly being treated with traditional Chinese medicine and will not undergo surgery.

Supreme Court hold on old sedition law

  • On May 11, the Supreme Court of India allowed the Center to reconsider the provision of Section 124A (sedition) of the Indian Penal Code. This is the first time in 162 years that the operation of the sedition provision has been suspended.
