PM Modi announced to celebrate December 26 as Veer Bal Diwas

  • Prime Minister Modi has announced that from this year, December 26 will be marked as ‘Veer Bal Diwas’. In India, this day is celebrated on the same day that Sahibzada Zorawar Singh ji and Sahibzada Fateh Singh ji were martyred by being sealed alive in a wall.

2022 Golden Globe Winners

  • The Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced the winners of the 2022 Golden Globes in a private ceremony. Netflix’s “The Power of the Dog” won for Best Motion Picture – Drama, 20th Century Studios’ West Side Story won for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, while Will Smith won his first Golden Globe.

Tata Group new sponsor of IPL

  • IPL President Brijesh Patel has confirmed that Tata will replace Vivo as title sponsor of IPL 2022, which will be the next edition of the tournament. He also pointed out that Vivo still has two more years left on its sponsorship deal with the IPL and, as a result, the Tata Group will continue to be the main sponsor during this period.

  • The president of the European Parliament, David Sassoli, died at the age of 65 in a hospital in Italy. Sassoli headed the European Union body that passes or rejects the law and is responsible for setting the budget and overseeing the mix of institutions.

Pierre-Olivier Gourinches is the new Chief Economist of the IMF

  • Pierre-Olivier Gourinches has been announced as the new Chief Economist of the International Monetary Fund. He will replace Gita Gopinath as chief economist of the IMF, who will join the IMF management team in January 2022. Gourinchas will start part-time as the IMF’s chief economist from 24 January and move on to full time on 1 January 2022.

Henley Index Passport Ranking 2022 announced

  • The Henley Passport Index has released the passport rankings for the first quarter of 2022. Indian passport has seen a significant improvement in its ranking as compared to 2021. The passports of Japan and Singapore have become the most powerful passports in the world in 2022.

S Somnath is the new chief of ISRO

  • S Somnath has been appointed as the new chief of the Indian Space Research Organisation. He will replace K Sivan as the new chairman of ISRO, who completed his extended term on January 7, 2022. Somnath is currently serving as the Director of Vikram Sarabhai Space Center (VSSC).

AP government increased retirement age

  • Andhra Pradesh government has announced an increase in the retirement age for state government employees. The state government increased the retirement age for AP government employees to 62 years from the existing 60 years and announced an increase in the salary of government employees.

Budget session of Parliament will start from January 31

  • The budget session of Parliament will start from January 31, 2022 and will be in two parts. The budget will be presented in Parliament on February 1. The final conclusion of the Budget 2022 session will be on April 8. The session will begin with President Kovind’s speech in the joint session of both the houses.

  • Former West Indies cricket team captain Clive Lloyd was awarded the knighthood for services to the game of cricket. Cricket West Indies (CWI) congratulated Clive Lloyd on being knighted and recognized his immense contribution to the development of the game in the West Indies.
