RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das launched New UPI Payment Service for feature phone UPI 123pay On March 8, 2022. The service will benefit an estimated 400 million feature phone users and enable them to make digital payments in a secure manner.
The RBI governor also launched a 24×7 helpline for digital payments called ‘DigiSathi’. The helpline has been set up by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI).
The RBI Governor said that these initiatives will boost financial inclusion in our economy.

123Pay: Benefits, Key Features & Other Important Details
- RBI’s new UPI payment service for feature phones named “123pay”.
- The UPI payment gateway includes a three-step method for initiating and executing services for the users.
- This service will work on ordinary phones which do not have internet connection.
- As of now, the UPI feature is available only on most smartphones.
With the new UPI payment service, feature phone users will be able to perform multiple transactions based on four technical options, including IVR (Interactive Voice Response) numbers, missed call-based approach, app functionality in feature phones and proximity voice. – based payment.
Users will be able to initiate payments to friends and family, recharge FASTag of vehicles, pay utility bills, mobile bills and check account balance.
Customers will also be able to link bank accounts and set or change UPI PIN.
There are about 400 million smartphone users in the country. According to RBI Deputy Governor T Rabi Shankar, the current UPI services are available to users through USSD-based services, which have been found to be cumbersome and not all mobile operators allow such services.

According to RBI, UPI volumes have so far reached Rs 76 lakh crore in FY22, as against Rs 41 lakh crore in FY21. RBI expects the total UPI volume to reach Rs 100 crore soon.
