Andhra Pradesh IT Minister Goutham Reddy passes away due to heart attack

Gowtham Reddy had returned to Hyderabad from Dubai on February 20. He was taken to Apollo Hospital in Jubilee Hills after he fell in his place.

Andhra Pradesh’s Minister of Information and Technology and Industry, Mekapati Gowtham Reddy, passed away on February 21, 2022, following a heart attack.

The 50-year-old had returned from Dubai to Hyderabad on February 20. He was taken to Apollo Hospital in Jubilee Hills after he fell in his place.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and Andhra Pradesh Governor Biswa Bhushan Harichandan expressed deep grief over the sudden demise of Gowtham Reddy.

The hospital said in an official statement, “The minister arrived at our ER at 7.45 pm and was unresponsive and not breathing and was in cardiac arrest upon arrival. He received immediate CPR and advanced cardiac life support at our emergency department.”

“He was treated by the emergency medical team and specialists including cardiologists and critical care doctors. CPR was performed for over 90 minutes. Despite our best efforts, he could not be revived,” read the statement. Gowtham Reddy is survived by his wife Keerthi and two children, daughter Ananya Reddy and son Arjun Reddy.

About Gautam Reddy

  • Mekapati Gowtham Reddy was born on 31 December 1976 in Brahmanapalli village of Nellore district.
  • He did his MSc in Textiles from the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom.
  • He was first elected MLA in 2014 from Atmakur assembly constituency. He was re-elected in 2019.
  • After coming to power in 2019, he was appointed as a minister in the Andhra Pradesh cabinet led by Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.
  • He is credited with formulating the best industrial policy for Andhra Pradesh, which helped attract good investments to the state in the last two years.
  • He was also recently in Dubai for the investors’ meeting and Dubai Expo in an effort to get more investment for the state.
  • His uncle Chandrasekhar Reddy is an MLA from Udayagiri in Nellore district and his father Rajamohan Reddy served as an MP from Narasaraopet, Ongole and Nellore.
  • Gautam Reddy was considered very close to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.
