COVID-19 Vaccination for Children: Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya informed on March 14, 2022 that the Covid-19 vaccination for children in the age group of 12-14 years will start from March 16. The co-morbidity clause has also been removed to give a precautionary dose to senior citizens.

The precautionary dose will now be given to all people above 60 years of age. Earlier, only people above 60 years of age with co-morbidities were eligible for the precautionary dose.

India had earlier introduced COVID-19 vaccination for 15-18 year olds from January 3, 2022. Children were able to register for COVID vaccination using their 10th student ID card in case they did not have an Aadhar card.

Precautionary doses were made available for health care and frontline workers and people above 60 from January 10, 2022.

How to book COVID-19 vaccination for 12-15 year olds? Know the steps here:

1. Go to CoWIN app directly or through Aarogya Setu.

2. Register using either the parent’s mobile number or any valid mobile number.

3. Click to receive OTP on mobile and enter OTP and proceed to verify.

4. Update the identity proof of the child under the new category on the coin homepage.

5. Children can be registered using their Aadhar card or 10th ID card.

6. Book a vaccination slot at the preferred time at a nearby vaccination center.

Which COVID vaccine will be given to 12-15 year olds?

The Central Drugs Standard Control Organization has approved only two vaccines — Covaxin and Corbevax — for children aged 12-15 years. However, it is likely that most vaccine centers will only have Covaxin for now. Covaxin is the first COVID vaccine approved for beneficiaries below the age of 18 years.

Corbevax is a two-dose COVID-19 vaccine that, like Covaxin, will be administered over an interval of 28 days.
