Vipul Gunatilka, former CEO of Sri Lankan Airlines, has been appointed as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the defunct Jet Airways. The decision was taken by the airline’s promoter Jalan Colorrock Consortium.

Vipul Gunatilka was serving as the CEO of Sri Lankan Airways till last month. He is now tasked with reviving a grounded career.

Gunatilka will officially join Jet Airways from March 1, 2022. He is regarded as a turnaround specialist and an aviation expert.

He had overseen Sri Lankan Airlines during the most difficult times of the COVID-19 pandemic. He was assigned the task of restructuring the airlines in 2018.

In a statement, Jet Airways said that less than two years after assuming the role of CEO of Sri Lankan Airlines, the airline recorded positive EBITDA and cash flow for 2019-20, reflecting the after-effects of the Sri Lankan terror attacks in April 2019. escaped from and the global pandemic in early 2020.

  • He was instrumental in replacing Angola’s loss-making national carrier.
  • Gunatilka is known for her astute knowledge in strategic planning, aircraft financing, cost-efficient business modeling and openness to hybrid model adoption.

Speaking on his new journey with Jet Airways, Gunatilka shared, “I am very excited to join the company and look forward to contributing my knowledge of the past 30 years to the resurgence of Jet Airways in its new avatar.
