Security has been tightened ahead of the big air show in Chandigarh. The city administration has also organized shuttle services between the halt/parking point and Sukhna Lake to bring people to the show.

On Air Force Day on Saturday, 80 military aircraft and helicopters will showcase the prowess of the Indian Air Force in a mega event in Chandigarh. Helicopters and planes will participate in the stunning flyover of the Sukhna Lake complex and the dress rehearsal on October 6. President Draupadi Murmu and Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh will be at Sukhna Lake to watch the air show.

The IAF will pilot various aircraft, including Rafale, Prachanda, Sukhoi Su-30, Jaguar, Chinook, Apache and Mi-17. Meanwhile, following the program of the Galaxy Parachute Team, Sarang Airshow and Surya Kiran Aerobatics teams will also perform at the event.

All you need to know about the 90th Indian Air Force Day Celebrations:

  • Indian Air Force Day is celebrated every year on October 8. This year marks the 90th anniversary of the event.
  • This is the first time the Indian Air Force has decided to hold its annual Air Force Day parade and fly outside the National Capital Territory of Delhi.
  • Security has been tightened ahead of Air Force Day celebrations.
  • The city administration organized shuttle services between the landing/parking point and Sukhna Lake to take people to the air show. Ferry services can be used through Chandigarh Tourism App with an online payment of ₹20.
  • A formal parade was organized at the Air Force Station on Saturday before the air show. Air Chief Marshal VR Choudhary inspected the parade.
  • The Chief of Air Staff unveiled the new combat uniform pattern for the IAF personnel at the ceremony.
  • The newly built locally manufactured Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) “Prachanda” will also be part of the flyover in constructing three aircraft.
  • On the helicopter launch, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said: “Navratri and the land of warriors, there could not be a better time to induct LCH than in Rajasthan.”
  • In the afternoon, there will be a grand flyover on Sukhna Lake. President Draupadi Murmu will head it.
  • Among the helicopters, advanced light helicopters Dhruv, Chinook, Apache and Mi-17 will take part in the airshow.
