India’s Lakshya Sen defeats World No.1 Viktor Axelsen to enter German Open 2022 final

Lakshya Sen vs Viktor Axelsen, German Open 2022: Indian shuttler Lakshya Sen made a spectacular comeback by defeating current world number one Viktor Axelsen to enter the final of the German Open Super 300. Sen made an unexpected comeback in the third and final game to win the match by defeating the Olympic gold medalist 21-13, 12-21, 22-20.

The 20-year-old won the opening game by a comfortable 21-13 to take a one-game lead. In the second game, Axelsen made a strong comeback to level the match by registering a 21-12 win. The world champions were also leading 15-8 in the third game, but Sen struggled to close the gap at 15-19, then leveled the score at 19-19 and then finished the semi-final match with two consecutive points. Brilliant comeback to Seal, 22-20.

The goal was Sen’s first win against Viktor Axelsen. The two players have faced each other five times.

Lakshya Sen is a former World Junior No. 1. He is currently at World No. 1. 12. He has recently won bronze medal 2021 BWF World Championships.

German Open 2022 Finals

Lakshya Sen will now take on Thailand’s Kunlavut Wittissern in the final of the German Open 2022 on March 13, 2022. Thailand’s shuttler defeated Malaysia’s Zi Jia 21-13, 21-12 in the semi-final match.

Lakshya Sen had earlier defeated fellow Indian HS Prannoy 21-15, 21-16 in the quarterfinals, while Axelsen beat India’s Kidambi Srikanth 21-10, 23-21 in straight games.

The men’s doubles pair of Krishna Prasad Garaga and Vishnuvardhan Goud had earlier crashed out of the Chinese pair of Jiting and Zhou Haodong 11-21, 21-23 in straight games.

India’s top female shuttler, world no. 7 PV Sindhu had also earlier crashed out in the women’s singles competition after losing in the second round. The 2019 world champion and two-time Olympic medalist suffered a crushing 14-21 21-15 14-21 loss to China’s Zhang Yi Mann.

London Olympic Games bronze medalist Saina Nehwal also crashed out of the second round after a 10-21 15-21 loss to eighth seed Thai Ratchanok Intanon.

2022 German Open

The 2022 German Open is an ongoing badminton tournament that takes place from 8 March to 13 March 2022 at the Westnergie Sporthall in Mülheim, Germany. The tournament has a total prize pool of $180,000.

The tournament is the fourth tournament of the 2022 BWF World Tour and is part of the German Open Championship, held since 1955.
