Importance
The virtual summit of QUAD leaders will be held in the backdrop of Russian invasion of Ukraine. However, the Ukraine crisis is not included in the agenda. India had three times opted to abstain from voting against Russia at the United Nations, while the other three quad members voted in favor of Ukraine. India, however, has repeatedly urged Russia to call off its military operations in Ukraine.
Background
The QUAD leaders last met in Washington DC in September 2021. The latest meeting comes as the United States and its Western allies are leading the international community in imposing severe sanctions against the Vladimir Putin-led Russian regime.
