Pragyananand, playing with the Black Pieces, managed to overtake the World No. 1 in 39 moves in the Tarash variation. The Indian GM is joint 12th with eight points after eight rounds.

Rameshbabu Pragyananand’s achievement is special and historic as it is only the third time that an Indian has defeated the Norwegian chess king Magnus Carlsen.
