Ratan Tata awarded Assam’s highest state civilian award Asom Baibhav
Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma conferred with state’s highest civilian award “Assam Glory” Eminent Indian industrialist Ratan Tata at a function at the Taj Wellington Meuse in Coloba, Mumbai on February 16, 2022.
The state government presented Ratan Tata with the Assam Vaibhav Award 2021 “His exceptional contribution towards advancing cancer care in Assam”.
The Chairman of Tata Trusts could not attend the official award ceremony held at Shrimant Sankardev Kalakshetra in Guwahati on January 24 due to personal reasons. Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi had conferred the three highest civilian awards of the state to 18 other eminent personalities in different fields during the ceremony.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma arrived in Mumbai to confer the award on Ratan Tata. He tweeted saying, “Today in Mumbai, Mr. Ratan Naval Tata, Chairman, Tata Trusts has the privilege of being conferred with the highest civilian award of our state, ‘Assam Baibhav’. The visionary industrialist and philanthropist has made an extraordinary contribution to advance cancer care in Assam. “

he adds, “Tata Sons and the Government of Assam are working together to build a huge cancer care network, with Ratan Tata contributing a lot. So I came to Mumbai to present Ratan Tata the highest Assam civilian award.”

Assam Vaibhav Award
• The ‘Assam Baibhav’ award carries a medal, a citation and a cash amount of Rs 5 lakh. This award is the highest civilian award of the state.
• The award was officially announced by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on December 2, 2021, on the occasion of Assam Day or “Assam Day”. Hence it was the first honor of the award.
• The awardee can also get lifelong medical treatment at the cost of the State Government.
• Rata Tata was awarded for his contribution in setting up cancer treatment facilities in the state.
• Tata Trusts had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Assam government in 2018 to provide comprehensive cancer care and ensure affordable quality cancer treatment for cancer patients in the state.
