1. (a) Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi

Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi resigned as the Union Minister for Minority Affairs on July 6, 2022. Union Minister RCP Singh has also submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The two terms of the two ministers are set to end on July 7.

2.(a) OPEC

Nigeria’s Mohamed Barkindo, the Secretary-General of OPEC (Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries), passed away unexpectedly at age 63; after holding the top position in OPEC for six years, he was to step down later this month.

3. (c) Punjab 

The Punjab government has announced to provide 300 units of free electricity every month to every household in the state from July 1, 2022. The Punjab cabinet approved this decision on July 6, 2022. However, people will have to pay the full bill if their usage exceeds 600 units in two months. However, people belonging to Backward Castes, Scheduled Castes, Below Poverty Line households, and freedom fighters will be charged only for the usage of more than 600 units.

4. (a) Delhi

Delhi will host the world-class ‘Delhi Shopping Festival’ from January 28 to February 26, 2023. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal made this announcement in a live address on July 6, 2022. Delhi CM said that the 30-day Delhi Shopping Festival would be the biggest in India. It will provide a unique shopping experience to the people with huge discounts.

Pakistan has moved past India in the 2022 ICC World Test Championship points table after India was penalized for slow over-rate in the Edgbaston Test against England. Due to the points penalty, India has moved to the fourth position in the 2022 World Test Championship points table with 52.08 points, while Pakistan is now at the third position with 52.38 points.

The Assam cabinet has approved the identification of five communities as indigenous Assamese Muslim communities. These include Moria, Goria, Jola, Desi and Syed. The move is in line with the recommendation subgroups/committees set up by the state government.

7. (a) Kerala

Saji Cherian resigned from the post of Culture Minister of Kerala on July 6, 2022, amid outrage over the remarks in the Constitution. Cherian’s remarks had created a major political controversy in the state. The Left leader expressed regret over his comments and said that news reports in this regard were distorted and he never defamed the Constitution.
