1. (b) Smriti Irani

Union Minister Smriti Irani took over the additional charge of the Ministry of Minority Affairs on July 7, 2022. This comes a day after he resigned from the cabinet of Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi. Smriti Irani was given the charge of the Ministry of Minority Affairs in addition to her existing Minister of Women and Child Development portfolio.

2. (b) IKEA

Murali Iyer has been appointed as the new Chief Financial Officer of Swedish home furnishing retailer’s India business, IKEA (part of Ingka Group). Iyer replaces Preet Dhoopar, who has moved to a global role within the Ingka group.

Boris Johnson has resigned as leader of Britain’s Conservative Party, paving the way for the election of Britain’s new prime minister. Johnson eventually agreed to step down as UK prime minister following a wave of resignations from top ministers and close aides, ending a two-and-a-half-year turmoil in office.

4. (c) Tropics

Scientists at the University of Waterloo in Canada have discovered a large ozone hole in the lower stratosphere, seven times larger than Antarctica. The new ozone hole was discovered in the tropics, the region between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn, and has reportedly been there for more than 30 years.

Popularly known as Payyoli Express or the Queen of Indian Track and Field, PT Usha is one of the most iconic sportspersons of India. She missed out on winning India’s first medal in track and field at the 1984 Olympics after finishing fourth in the women’s 400 meters. She hails from Kozhikode, Kerala.

Former NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant is expected to be appointed as India’s new G20 Sherpa, replacing Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, who has been tasked with other pressing duties. A full-time Sherpa will be needed as the next G20 President is visiting India in November.

Brad Pitt recently revealed that he thinks he has a rare face blindness disorder called prosopagnosia. Prosopagnosia is a face blindness disorder, meaning a person cannot recognize people’s faces. The disorder usually affects people from birth and usually stays with the person for most of their life. Pitt first spoke about the possibility of prosopagnosia face blindness in 2013.
