King Charles III of Great Britain has awarded Indian-born Nobel laureate Professor Venky Ramakrishnan the prestigious Order of Merit. The honor recognizes Ramakrishnan’s distinguished service to science. The UK-based molecular biologist is one of six appointments made in a landmark order by the late Queen Elizabeth II before her death in September 2022 and the first to be appointed by King Charles III.

Mary Kom Elected Chair of IOA ‘Athlete Commission’

Olympic medalist Mary Kom was unanimously elected president of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) Athletes Commission, while table tennis legend Achanta Sharath Kamal was elected vice president of the body. It was also earlier announced that Mary Kom, PV Sindhu, and Commonwealth Games medalist Achanta Sharath Kamal are among the ten eminent sportspeople who will form the Indian Olympic Association’s new ‘Athletes Commission.’

India ranks 8th on the global climate protection list.

India has moved up two places to rank eighth out of 63 in the 2023 Climate Change Performance Index (CCPI). The improvement in ranking is a result of India’s low emissions and increased use of renewable energy. The Climate Change Performance Index report was published by three environmental non-governmental organizations that track the climate performance of the European Union and 59 countries.
