Veteran Malayalam actor KPAC Lalitha passes away: Mamooty, Revathi, Prithviraj, CM Pinarayi Vijayan pay tribute
KPAC Lalita passed away on February 22, 2022 in Kochi, after battling a prolonged liver-related ailment. The veteran actor breathed his last just three days before his 74th birthday.
The veteran actor acted in over 500 films in a career spanning five decades. She played a variety of roles ranging from female protagonist roles to comedic roles to supporting cast. He also acted as a character artist in several films in Tamil.
Celebrities including Mammootty, Revathi, Manju Warrier, Keerthy Suresh, Prithviraj Sukumaran and Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan among others paid tributes to the late actor.
Mammootty shared a picture of the late star on his Twitter and wrote a note in Malayalam which translates to: “I have lost my beloved. With so many everlasting memories, I mourn his death.”

Revathi Asha Keluni also wrote on her Instagram, “Lalita Chechi – Thank you Chechi for the abundance of performances… you will live through all of them for generations. May your soul rest in peace.”
KPAC Lalita: Know her journey in acting
- KPAC Lalitha was born as Maheshwari Amma in Kayamkulam, Alappuzha.
- The veteran actor had acted in over 550 films in Malayalam and Tamil.
- She also held the post of President of Kerala Sangeet Natak Akademi for five years.
- The actor had joined the KPAC (Kerala People’s Arts Club), a leading drama troupe in Kerala. She then adopted the screen-name Lalita and later when she started acting in films and later the KPAC tag was added to her name.
- KPAC Lalitha has won two National Film Awards for Best Supporting Actress along with four Kerala State Film Awards.
- He was also awarded the National Award for his roles in ‘Amaram’ in 1999 and ‘Shantam’ in 2000.
- She was married to late Malayalam film producer Bharatan. His family consists of a son and a daughter.
- His son Siddhartha is a film producer and actor in Malayalam cinema and daughter Srikutty Bharatan.
