1. (a) EMM negative
India’s first unique blood group, EMM negative, was found in a 65-year-old man in Gujarat. The EMM-negative blood group is the rarest in the world, and the person from Gujarat is the 10th person in the world with the rarest blood group. A man with heart disease was found to have the world’s rarest blood type when he underwent heart surgery.

On July 14, 2022, India’s first case of monkeypox was reported in Kollam, Kerala. A case of monkeypox has been reported in a 35-year-old man who arrived in Kerala from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on July 12. Kerala Health Minister Veena George said that he had reached Trivandrum airport, and all steps were being taken per the guidelines of WHO and ICMR.

The World Health Organization, on July 7, 2022, confirmed that two suspected cases of the deadly Marburg virus had been reported in Ghana. Marburg is a highly contagious viral hemorrhagic fever belonging to the same family as the Ebola virus disease. Both patients, who have now died, tested positive for Marburg according to a preliminary analysis of their samples. This would be the first such infection recorded in the West African country if confirmed.
