E-BILLING PROCESS: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman launched on 2 March 2022 E-Bill Processing System As announced in the Union Budget 2022. The Union Minister, while speaking during the inaugural session of the 46th Civil Accounts Day, highlighted the efforts of the Union Government to use technology to facilitate the Financial Inclusion drive in India.

Speaking on the occasion, the Finance Minister while talking about the E-Bill Processing System also appreciated the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana and said that Jan Dhan accounts have put an end to financial discrimination and help the poor in the country get direct financial benefits. have helped. their accounts.

What is E-Bill Processing System?

E-Bill Processing System is a flagship e-governance initiative launched as part of Ease of Doing Business and Digital India Eco-system.

In simple words, e-bill processing system is a way to transact bills digitally instead of the traditional use of paper. When billed electronically, customers will be able to receive their bills online, via e-mail, or in machine-readable data form.

According to the Finance Ministry of India, the e-bill processing system will be implemented in all the central ministries and departments.

Why is E-Bill processing system important?

The e-bill processing system will be another step to enhance efficiency, transparency and a faceless-paperless payment system. According to the finance ministry, suppliers and contractors will not be able to submit their claim online which will be trackable on real time basis.

Since e-billing is time-efficient, it will also be a quick and simple method which will suit the government’s call to digitize India. E-bill processing system will also reduce errors.


The e-bill processing system as a major e-governance initiative was announced by the Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the Union Budget 2022-23 which was presented in the Parliament of India on February 1, 2022.
